Families have no shortage of outdoor spaces to enjoy. Lake Meridian Park in Kent offers swimming, fishing, picnic areas, and playgrounds, while Point Defiance Park in Tacoma features miles of scenic trails, gardens, beaches, and the zoo. Allan Yorke Park in Bonney Lake is another favorite for summer afternoons with waterfront access, sports fields, and open green space. Many communities also maintain neighborhood parks, splash pads, and walking trails that make it easy to enjoy the outdoors year-round.
Living in this part of Washington means you're never far from your next adventure. Pacific Northwest weather simply means discovering new indoor activities. Visit museums in Tacoma, browse independent shops in Kent or Auburn, enjoy local coffeehouses, catch a movie, or spend the afternoon exploring community recreation centers and libraries. Many cities also host indoor seasonal festivals, art exhibits, and family-friendly events throughout the year.
Fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, handmade crafts, and locally produced foods are easy to find throughout the summer. Popular markets include the Kent Farmers Market, the Auburn International Farmers Market, and seasonal community markets across Tacoma and neighboring cities. Shopping local is one of the best ways to support small businesses while enjoying fresh Pacific Northwest products.
Every city has its own personality. Kent offers convenient commuter access and a wide variety of neighborhoods. Auburn combines historic charm with modern amenities. Maple Valley is known for beautiful forests and outdoor recreation, while Covington continues to grow with new shopping and residential developments. Tacoma offers vibrant urban living, museums, and waterfront attractions, while Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps, Sumner, Edgewood, Buckley, and Enumclaw provide quieter communities with easy access to parks, trails, and open space.

Explore Bonney LakeOne place I always recommend is Flaming Geyser State Park near Black Diamond. It's a peaceful spot for walking, picnics, and enjoying the Green River, and it's a great reminder that some of the area's best places are just a short drive away.
Lake Meridian Park is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset close to home. The calm lake, walking paths, and peaceful atmosphere make it a great spot for an evening stroll or simply relaxing by the water after a busy day.
Whenever I want to get outside and enjoy some fresh air, I often head to the Soos Creek Trail. The paved pathway is peaceful, easy to walk, and surrounded by beautiful Pacific Northwest scenery.
